Satan Uses the Internet

I normally don’t stop what I’m doing during the day because of something I read, but I wanted to pass along some nuggets of wisdom from Pastor Rick Warren concerning media ingestion in the life of a Christian. I’m not sounding an alarm and calling everyone to trash their new 60″ plasma screen & subsequent HDTV subscriptions, but I believe as a Christ-follower, one should always been measuring and gauging the effect of influences from our culture in our life.

Right now at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, Dr. Warren is leading the Radicalis Conference with guest speakers Mark Driscoll, Ed Stetzer, Dino Rizzo, Andy Stanley, Perry Noble, Doug Fields, Kerry Shook and others. If you’re a mucky-muck pastor, or an aspiring mucky-muck pastor, you probably knew about this conference and wanted to go. And that’s ok!

ASIDE (I’m not there. I’m jealous.)

Dr. Warren, in one of his sessions, said some things concerning the aforementioned media ingestion and some of the tools satan uses to influence our life. Check these out…and be weary of what you ingest!

4 ways satan uses the internet and TV to lower the standard of sin
1. To glamorize sin.
2. To imply everyone is doing it.
3. To fail to show consequences.
4. To get you to laugh at it.

That’s it…simple and applicable. Be aware of what you’re taking in.

I think the homosexual lifestyle is the one that easily sneaks in with me. At first I’m laughing at the character who is obviously protraying a “gay” person and then I realize, he’s suppose to be entertaining me and that’s when I feel the gut check. Turn the channel.

I’ve attempted to tune a critical eye to anything I watch anymore.

    Choices are slim.

Yes, the are very slim. When we moved from Newark to Rockport, we made the decision to not pay for TV (DirectTV, Dish, cable, etc.) and we haven’t really regretted it. We now have a subscription to Netflix, so we can stream movies over our computers or my XBox. That’s about the only TV/movies we see anymore. And we’re ok with it.
