The Problem with Transformers 2
What did you expect?
C’mon, honestly. Did you really believe a movie about an alien robot species that inhabits General Motors automobiles (almost exclusively) and partners with America to defend against the advances of the bad alien robot cars would receive good reviews from critics?
Let me say this before going on; I’m not going to explore or engage in discussion on Transformers 2, Director Michael Bay, or the fact that Hollywood seems to be desperate for movie ideas (oops, my opinion slipped). I am just passing along a great article demonstrating something I’ve observed before in the realm of Hollywood.
How is it that movie critics can shred a movie to pieces, yet movie goers will exalt and praise a movie in the one area that really matters in the movie industry – sales. Likewise, critics can give full support to a film, calling it a “must see” or “Oscar-worthy”, yet it can be (and often is) ignored by the masses of movie goers that flock to theaters across America every weekend. Well, this little mystery, called the critic-audience divide, is greatly illustrated in this post from Spout Blog.

Did I see Transformers 2? Yes. But I only paid $4.00. I don’t feel like I got ripped, but my opinion would be different if I had paid $12.00.
